There are ways to overcome anger and hatred towards others, Thurman explains, and compassion is essential. When we exchange self for other, or give up self-cherishing attitudes, we realize there is no real difference between friend and enemy. Friends become enemies and enemies become friends—and so it is important to reflect on the uncertainty of friend and enemy.
